Free Initial Consultation
The first thing we will do when you check in for your consultation is take a collection of photos of your smile, as well as a panoramic x-ray. This is how we evaluate the alignment of your teeth and jaw, as well as any impediments to achieving your dream smile. There can be issues such as an impaction, congenitally missing teeth, or extra teeth that can affect the alignment of your bite. Dr. Connell will assess your specific needs and will create a treatment plan specifically for you.
Your consultation will end in one of 3 ways: you will be recommended observation, phase 1 growth guidance, or comprehensive treatment.
Observation
If your consultation results in the recommendation of observation appointments, this is because we would like to monitor growth and development. We may be waiting on something specific, such as baby teeth to fall out. We may be waiting to see how the adult teeth come in because you may not even need treatment in the future. We will want to see you 1-2 times a year, and we will work alongside your dentist for the best possible outcome with the least treatment needed.
Phase 1 Treatment (growth guidance)
If you are told you are a candidate for phase 1 treatment, this means that the recommendation for treatment is to create ample space for teeth to grow in naturally. Phase 1 growth guidance has the potential to reduce or eliminate future treatment with braces or Invisalign©.
Comprehensive Treatment (Braces or Invisalign©)
If you are a candidate for comprehensive treatment, you and Dr. Connell will work together to decide whether Invisalign© or traditional braces are right for you. We will either take impressions and more x-rays right away or schedule for a later date if you prefer. If you’ve gone the traditional route, Dr. Connell will prepare the placement of your brackets, and you’ll come back 1-2 weeks afterward to place your braces! Once they’re on, you’ll notice a few things. They feel a bit strange and are somewhat uncomfortable while your lips get used to them. This doesn’t last very long, but we do have products and suggestions to help if it continues to be a problem.
If you’ve gone the Invisalign© route, we will take a digital scan. Dr. Connell will prepare your prescription and Invisalign© will create your aligners. In 3-4 weeks they will be ready, and you will schedule an appointment to pick them up and get started!
The average time between regular appointments is between 6 to 12 weeks. Through use of the Invisalign© app, in person appointments could be even less frequent than that. After some appointments or aligner changes your teeth will be sensitive for a few days, but many times you’ll have no discomfort at all. If your teeth bother you, you may take a mild pain reliever and be sure to eat soft foods.
And one last thing!
Proper dental care with traditional braces takes a little extra effort, but it will be well worth it. Brushing and flossing can speed up your treatment time and will prevent plaque from making marks on your teeth. All the brackets and wires in your mouth create places for plaque to hide. Plaque is sticky and made up of food and bacteria. When plaque attaches your braces and teeth, it causes cavities, swollen gums, bad breath, and can even permanently stain your teeth around where your brackets used to be. We want you to be successful on your orthodontic journey, and will be consistently communicative about proper oral hygiene. The Best way to Pay
Easy financing options are available to make orthodontic treatments affordable. We strive to consistently deliver the best value for you and your family.
InsuranceMany dental insurance plans cover both traditional braces and Invisalign. Coverage varies but plans may offer a lifetime coverage. We’ll discuss how our treatment plans fit with your coverage during the initial consultation. FSA (Flexible Spending Account)
Did you know you can apply your Flexible Spending Account towards braces and Invisalign treatment? Each year, you can set aside funds (before taxes!) through your FSA, and use those funds to help cover the cost of orthodontic treatment. Then you can apply for FSA reimbursement. Additional Coverage / Financing / Payment Plans
In addition to cash and major credit cards, we offer flexible and affordable monthly payment plans. If your insurance doesn’t cover all of your treatment fees or if cost is a concern for you, we can talk about it during your initial consultation. We are flexible and happy to accommodate our patients’ needs.
We are in-network with Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Delta and MetLife, and accept credit, debit, ACH, FSA, and HSA
